REMEMBER THESE 5 TIPS TO KEEP YOUR HEART HEALTHY

1 Stay Active. At least 30 minutes walk for most days of the week ( 3-4 days ). This prevent weight gain, reduce the risk of developing diabetes and enhance blood pressure control.

2 Check your blood pressure regularly. For those who are hypertensive, ensure that your blood pressure is controlled within the acceptable range. Prescription adherence is key for achieving blood pressure control.

3 Check your fasting blood glucose and HbA1c regularly. This is equally important in diabetes and those with impaired glucose tolerance test as well as those who are obese. Ensure that your blood glucose level remains at the acceptable range. This is also achieved through prescription adherence.

4 Check your fasting Lipid profile (cholesterol) regularly. This is particularly important for those that are hypertensive and diabetic, as the combination of the two makes an individual at high risk for heart disease. Seek for medical advice if your Lipid profile is abnormal.

5 Adopt healthy lifestyle. This is achieved through weight reduction, avoidance of cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, high salt and high fat diary products intake.
